Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22 May 2015 inaugurated the Golden Jubilee celebrations of which noted Hindi poet and author?: Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’

Explanation: Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’ (1908-1974) is considered as one of the most famous and important poets of the modern Hindi era. He had won several honors and among them the prestigious Bharatiya Jnanpith award in 1972 and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1959 are notable. At a function held at Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan on 22 May 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inaugurated the golden jubilee celebration of Ramdhari Singh Dinkar’s two works – “Sanskriti ke Chaar Adhyaye” and “Parshuram ki Pratiksha”. He was hailed as Rashtrakavi (national poet) due to patriotic nature of his innumerable works. His other important works include “Urvarshi”, “Rashmirathi” and “Kurukshetra”.

The move, seen as implementation of full mobile number portability (MNP) across the country, now user can dial STD mobile phone number call without using/adding which prefix?: ‘O’ or ‘+91’

Explanation: The full mobile number portability (MNP) across the country has come into affect following the recent DoT amendment of national numbering plan (NNP). Thus now, telecom operators allow their subscribers to dial on to mobile numbers within the same circle as well as inter circle without any prefix. Calls can also be made using the prefix '0' and/or '+91'. The earlier deadline to roll out 'full MNP' was May 3 but it was extended to 2 months as telecom operators have to make some technical changes to their networks due to changes in national numbering plan (NNP) and this could take about 8 weeks.

In a first for military aviation in the country, a Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force on 21 May 2015 successfully landed on which Expressway near Mathura as part of trials to use national highways for emergency landing?: Yamuna Expressway

Explanation: The IAF has been considering the use of national highways for emergency landing by fighter aircraft thus on 21 May 2015 at 6.14 Am the Mirage 2000 Fighter aircraft better known as 'Vajra' or 'Thunderbolt' in the IAF, the multi-role fighter landed on the six-lane Yamuna Expressway near near Raya village, Mathura. The operations were conducted with active support from the government of Uttar Pradesh, Yamuna Expressway Authority, toll authorities of JP Infratech and the Mathura police. There were several sorties by IAF helicopters before the jet, a single seater powered by a single engine that can attain a maximum speed of 2,495 km/hr (Mach 2.3), landed on a desolate patch that had been cleared for traffic. 

In big move, the government for the first time plans to launch a web portal that can be accessed by a common man to upload visuals and details of missing children and help track them. What is the web address of this website?: khoyapaya.gov.in 

Explanation: The web portal has been initiated by the ministry of women and child development (WCD) along with the department of electronics and information technology (DEITY) and will be run with the assistance of Childline and local police. The expected date to launch this website is July 2015. According to NCRB data one lakh children are reported missing in India every year. However, according to Child rights activists, the number is much higher because children missing in rural areas and in deep hinterland are neither reported by police nor are efforts made to find them.

On 20 May 2015, 50th anniversary of India’s first successful expedition of which mountain was observed?: Mt. Everest

Explanation: On 20 May 1965, the first-ever Indian expedition ascended to the top of the world – the Mt. Everest peak lead by captain M.S. Kohli and other 21 members. However, only 9 members were successful in climbing to the top. Thus this successful mission put India in the exalted group of countries who had ascended the world’s highest point-the 8848 meter high Mount Everest that had been scaled only thrice earlier. Captain Avtar Singh Cheema and Nawang Gombu were the first to scale the peak on 20 May 1965, followed by Sonam Gyatso and Sonam Wangyal on 22 May, C.P.Vohra and Ang Kami on 24 May and Major HPS Ahluwalia, Harish Rawat and Phu Dorji on 29 May. This record, of nine members of an expedition summiting, remained unbroken for 17 years. On 20 May 2015 the Prime Minister met 9 surviving members of India’s first successful expedition to Mt. Everest. This included Captain M.S. Kohli, Col. N Kumar, Gurdial Singh, Maj HPS Ahluwalia, C.P. Vohra, Sonam Wangyal, GS Bhangu, Brig Mulk Raj and Lala Telang.

Explanation: 66-year-old K L Das, a resident of Darbhanga who has been living in Delhi for last 25 years, had reported the huge mass in the right side of the abdomen with discomfort and heaviness. Thus after check-up it was found that mass was rapidly progressing for the last two and three months and the cancer had spread to the lungs. Therefore, through surgical operation 5.018 Kg of tumor was removed and was discovered that patient's right kidney had bloated 35 times the normal size before operation making it the world's biggest ever kidney tumour on record as per the medical literature. The previous record was removal of a 2.5kg (5.5lb) tumour by doctors at Sir Gangaram hospital.

The JPC thus be headed by the S.S. Ahluwalia who is also a Lok Sabha MP of the BJP from Darjeeling in West Bengal. JPC is expected to submit its report on the first day of the monsoon session.

Explanation: On November 1973, Shanbaug was appointed as  junior nurse at the KEM Hospital in Mumbai, was brutally assaulted and raped by a wardboy-cum-sweeper of the hospital, Sohanlal Bharta Valmiki, after throttling her with a dog chain. The brutal assault cut off blood and oxygen supply to key parts of her brain. Since then she had been in a vegetative state and confined to a bed at the KEM hospital. In 2011, the Supreme Court responded to a plea for euthanasia filed by journalist Pinki Virani but was turned down.
