World Oldest Aircarft carrier INS Viraat to ‘retire’
  1. INS Viraat - 55 years old, the world’s oldest aircraft carrier (which has entered in the Guinness World Records for being the oldest serving warship) will be decommissioned on March 6 in Mumbai.
  2. The decommissioning event will be followed by the lowering & wrap-up of the naval flag installed on the warship.

India launches record 104 satellites
  1. India has created history by successfully launching 104 satellites on a single mission from from the space centre at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
  2. 101 nano- satellites, one each from Israel, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and 96 from United States of America (USA), as well as two from India.
  3. ISRO used the PSLV for the launch which is 714kg,while the nano satellites weighed a combined 664kgs.
  4. Indian Space Research Organisation's workhorse PSLV carried a record 104 satellites in a single mission today 
  5. Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, in its 39th flight (PSLV-C37), launched the 714 kg Cartosat-2 series satellite for earth observation along with 103 co-passenger satellites, together weighing about 664 kg at lift off.
  6. Last year, ISRO had launched a record 20 satellites at one go.
  7. The highest number of satellites launched in a single mission is 37, a record that Russia set in 2014 while US space agency, NASA has launched 29.

Circus is all set to return on DD National
  1. Doordarshan aired Circus surprised SRK's fans by announcing the rerun of the serial starting 19 February on their channel, 8 pm onwards.
  2. Badshah of the Indian film industry Shah Rukh Khan who entered the movie business with Deewana (1992), has given us memorable characters such as Ajay/Vicky in Baazigar, Sunil in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na, Raj in DDLJ, Kabir Khan in Chak De! India, and Mohan Bhargav in Swades.
  3. Khan was known for his acting in popular television serials such as Fauji (1989), Dil Dariya (1988), Circus (1989-1990) amongst others.
Sachin adopts another village under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna
  1. Sachin Tendulkar has announced to adopt Donja in Osmanabad, Maharashtra under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna and sanctioned over Rs 4 crore from his MPLAD fund for development activities.
  2. Tendulkar had announced Donja as his second adopted village late last year after successfully completing the first phase of development in Puttamraju Kandriga,Andhra Pradesh

  1. IHGF- Delhi Fair Spring 2017 will be held from February 16-20 in which more than 3000 handicraft exhibitors will showcase their wide products
  2. This is the 43rd edition of the world’s largest handicrafts and gifts fair which will be held in at India Expo Centre & Mart,Greater Noida Expressway in the NCR of Delhi
India’s first floating elementary school
  1. India’s first floating elementary school named Loktak Elementary Floating School was inaugurated at Langolsabi Leikai of Champu Khangpok floating village on Loktak Lake,Manipur.
  2. The first of its kind school aims to provide education to drop outs students as well as illiterate adults.Currently it will provide education to around 40 children from Class I-III
Kalimpong is Bengal’s 21st district
  1. The Kalimpong subdivision of the Darjeeling hills became the 21st district of West Bengal 14 Feb 2017.
  2. Kalimpong was once known for the Silk Route that passed through the region, connecting Nepal and Bhutan with the city.
Aero India began at the Air Force Station, Yelahanka
  1. 11th biennial edition of the International Aerospace and Defence exhibition - Aero India began at the Air Force Station, Yelahanka in Bengaluru on Tuesday. 
  2. The five day event is being organised and conducted by the Defence Exhibition Organisation and nearly 270 Indian and 279 foreign companies are taking part in the expo. 
Ministry to launch fitness programme
  1. The secretary of the Union Sports Ministry and Director General of the Sports Authority of India has launched the national physical fitness programme at the inauguration of the Manav Rachna Sports Science Centre in Faridabad, Haryana.
  2. The institute has been setup in collaboration with Tsukuba University, Japan.
Launch of the AISATS COOLPORT at Kempegowda International Airport
  1. Air India SATS Airport Services Pvt. Ltd, India’s premier airport services company, launches AISATS COOLPORT.
  2. It is India’s first integrated on-airport perishable cargo handling centre at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.
  3. AISATS COOLPORT will meet the extensive processing requirements of perishable cargo products such as pharmaceuticals, fruits, vegetables, flowers, meat & seafood
