Polly Umrigar Award and Dilip Sardesai award to be awarded to Indian players
  1. Virat Kohli is declared to be awarded with the prestigious Polly Umrigar Award and Dilip Sardesai award to Ashwin at Bengaluru on March 8, 2017.
  2. Virat became the first Indian cricketer to be bestowed the honour on three occasions.
‘Swachh Shakti Saptah’ Launched
  1. “Swachh Shakti Saptah” is launched in Gurugram in Haryana to raise awareness on sanitation and cleanliness.
  2. Nearly 1,500 women sarpanches of Swachh Bharat Mission  and all women sarpanches of Gurugram are participating in this event.
Pandas are black and white are now decoded 
  1. As per new study published in the journal Behavioural Ecology, the giant panda's distinct black-and-white markings have two functions: camouflage and communication.
  2. The study suggests that this dual colouration stems from its poor diet of bamboo and inability to digest a broader variety of plants. The scientists who earlier uncovered why zebras have black and white stripes, took the colouration question to giant pandas in the latest study. 
  3. This decoding will enabled the team to compare different regions of fur across the giant panda's body to the dark and light colouring of 195 other carnivore species and 39 bear subspecies, to which it is related. 
Tirtha Darshan scheme announced by Haryana
  1. Under Tirtha Darshan scheme, over 400 destinations can be visited by senior citizens above 60 years of age.
  2. They are all should be Haryana domicile to become eligible for pilgrimage within the country at government expense.
  3. Under the scheme, the government would bear the entire cost of the tour of senior citizens belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.
Army gets weapon locating radar from DRDO
  1. Indigenous weapon locating radar (WLR) is named as Swathi by the DRDO that was handed over to Army. 
  2. Swathi has a range of 50 km, which brings all artillery guns presently in service worldwide under coverage.
  3. DRDO also handed over a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) recce vehicle and NBC treatment drugs to the Army.

  1. "Swachh Shakti Saptah" launched in Gurugram in Haryana with the objective to raise awareness on sanitation and cleanliness. 
  2. In that over 1,500 women Sarpanches of Swachh Bharat Mission participated and PM Modi will take part in closing ceremony of the week long programme on March 8 at Gandhinagar in Gujarat.

National Innovation Foundation award nominated for Meghalayan root bridge
  1. Meghalaya’s root-bridge has been nominated for the prestigious National Innovation Foundation award for grassroots innovations and outstanding traditional knowledge.
  2. It is a community-driven innovation by forest dwellers in the southern slopes of of the state.
Haryana Launches Online Sex Ratio Monitoring System For Panipat
  1. The Haryana government has set up an online system for Panipat to monitor the sex-ratio in the district as part of the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' programme which was developed in association with National Informatics Centre (NIC).
  2. The system, called the sex ratio monitoring dashboard, will have the data of child sex-ratio collected from all villages by the Health and Women and Child Welfare Departments every month.
Taarak Mehta passes away
  1. Taarak Mehta columnist, humorist, writer and playwright has passes away at the age of 87 years after prolonged illness in Ahmedabad.
  2. Taarak Mehta, has garnered huge popularity for his column 'Duniya Ne Undha Chasma' in Gujarati language is no more. 
  3. He had around 80 books published and written on various pressing issues and was a noted writer and awarded Padma Shri in 2015. 
  4. The popular comic series 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' is a television adaptation of Padma Shri Taarak Mehta's column 'Duniya Ne Undha Chasma'.

Health Ministry launches ‘Saathiya Kits’ to improve adolescent health
  1. Union Health Secretary launched “Saathiya Resource Kits” that will provide information on adolescent related issues such as puberty and mental health, among others.
  2. The resource kit comprises of an Activity Book, Bhranti-Kranti Game, a Question-Answer  Saathiya KitsBook and a Peer Educator Diary.
  3. Mishra also launched the mobile app ‘Saathiya Salah‘ for adolescents. The initiative, launched as part of the Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) program.
