3rd Indian boxer to bag gold medal at the AIBA Youth World Championships

  1. Sachin Singh on 27 November 2016 became the third Indian boxer to bag gold medal in the AIBA Youth World Championships at St Petersburg, Russia.
  2. In 2014 edition, India was able to secure just a bronze medal.
  3. India finished the tournament with one gold and a bronze. Naman had settled for a bronze Tanwar in the 91 kg after losing in the semifinal. 
  4. Newly-formed Boxing Federation of India (BFI) announced a cash prize for the two medalists. It announced Rs one lakh for Sachin and Rs 25000 for Naman.

Gaganjeet Bhullar Wins Indonesia Open

  1. Indian Golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar of India has won the 300,000 US Dollar BANK BRI-JCB Indonesia Open and with this he became the fisth player to win the title for the second time in his career.
  2. He also won the event in 2013 & sealed his seventh victory on the Asian Tour & a second title this season.
  3. ​Jeev Milkha Singh finished tied second.

Manavjit Singh Clinches Gold Medal

  1. Former world champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu clinched the gold medal in men’s trap event at the 60th National Shooting Championship for Shotgun by defeating silver winner Raninder Singh to seal the top spot in Jaipur.
  2. He shot 117 in qualifying to reach the six-man final rounds in fourth spot, then shot 12 out of 15 birds in the semi-final stage to make it to the gold medal match.

India cricket team beat England

  1. India beat England by 246 runs in the second cricket Test to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series in Visakhapatnam on Monday.
  2. India scored : 455 & 204 and England scored : 255 & 158 all out in 97.3 overs (Alastair Cook 54, Jonny Bairstow 34 not out; Jayant Yadav 3/30, Ravichandran Ashwin 3/52). 

Andy Murray win the ATP World Tour Final

  1. Britain’s Andy Murray win his first ATP World Tour Finals title and end 2016 as the world number one by defeating five-time champion Novak Djokovic to win his first ATP World Tour Finals title and end 2016 as the world number one.
  2. The victory also ends Djokovic’s four-year run of success at the tournament and the Serb’s bid to equal Roger Federer’s record of six titles.

P.V. Sindhu clinched Maiden Super Series Premier Badminton title (China Open Super Series)

  1. On 20 November 2016, World No. 11 and Olympic silver medalist P.V. Sindhu clinched her maiden China Open Super Series against Sun Yu of China. 
  2. Sindhu became the second Indian player to win this prestigious tournament. Saina Nehwal had won the title in 2014.
  3. China Open Super Series tournament was hosted at the Haixia Olympic Sports Center in Fuzhou.

International Olympic Committee stripped medals from ten athletes

  1. The International Olympic Committee stripped ten athletes of their medals from 2008 Olympics. The move came after these athletes were tested positive for various banned steroids during the retest of their samples from the games.
  2. These results take the total of weightlifting medalists tested positive for banned substances in 2008 Olympics to 22. 
  3. Among the ten athletes, nine belong to former Soviet Union countries. Three were silver medalists: Wrestlers Vitaly Rahimov and Khasan Baroev from Azerbaijan and Russia respectively and weightlifter Irina Nekrasova from Kazakhstan.
  4. Two were bronze medalists: Triple jumper Chrysopigi Devetzi from Greece and pole vaulter Denys Yurchenko from Ukraine.
  5. Apart from them, six athletes who did not win any medal during the 2008 games were also disqualified. 
  6. One among the disqualified six is Russia’s Elena Slesarenko-women’s high jump gold medalist in 2004- who came fourth in 2008 games and Ukraine’s Vita Palamar, who came fifth.

  1. In the second dope-related offence, Sprinter Dharambir Singh Haryana sprinter Dharambir Singh in the third week of November 2016 was handed an eight-year ban by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).

Hockley 1st woman to head a Test nation's cricket board

  1. Debbie Hockley has been elected as president of New Zealand Cricket, becoming the first woman to hold that role in the 122-year history of the sport's national governing body.
  2. New Zealand Cricket said Wednesday that Hockley, who was captain of New Zealand's women's team and is a member of the International Cricket Council's hall of fame, will replace Stephen Boock and will serve a three-year term.
