Nico Rosberg quit Formula One

  1. Nico Rosberg quit Formula One on 2nd December 2016, just five days after winning the world title for Mercedes in a move that stunned motor racing. 
  2. The 31-year-old German, who beat off teammate Lewis Hamilton in the finale, is the first reigning champion to quit since Alain Prost in 1993. 

India's football federation wins Asian award

  1. The All-India Football Federation has won the Asian Football Council's Developing Member Association of the Year Award in Abu Dhabi for organisation of courses, seminars and competitions, grassroots, youth development and women's programmes and special projects. 
  2. In 2014, AIFF had earlier won the AFC President's Recognition Award for grassroots football.

Magnus Carlsen won the 2016 World Chess Championship

  1. Magnus Carlsen Norwegian chess grandmaster. defeated Sergey Karjakin and won the 2016 World Chess Championship on 30 November 2016 in New York City, USA.
  2. He has reigned as world champion since 2013 after defeating Viswanathan Anand in the World Chess Championship and became a chess Grandmaster in 2004, at the age of 13 years. This made him the third-youngest grandmaster in history.

P V Sindhu won Silver in Hong Kong Open Super Series

  1. Olympic silver-medallist P V Sindhu lost against Tai Tzu Ying (Chinese Taipei) in the final of the Hong Kong Open Super Series final on 27 November 2016.
  2. Sindhu lost 15-21, 17-21 in a clash which lasted 41 minutes. It was sweet revenge for Tzu Ying, who had lost to Sindhu most recently in the Rio Olympic Games. She now leads 5-3 in the head-to-head record against her.
  3. National men’s badminton champion Sameer Verma also faltered in the final as he lost to local favourite Ng Ka Long Agus by 14-21, 21-10, 11-21 in the men’s final. This was Verma’s maiden appearance in a Super Series final.

Indian golfer won the inaugural Qatar Ladies Open

  1. Indian golfer Aditi Ashok on 27 November 2016 won the inaugural Qatar Ladies Open in Doha.
  2. Aditi Ashok recorded her second straight victory on the Ladies European Tour.
  3. Nanna Koerstz Madsen ended in fourth place on 11-under-par. Annabel Dimmock ended in fifth and Nicole Garcia in sixth. Georgia Hall and Becky Morgan were joint seventh.

Argentina won maiden Davis Cup title

  1. Argentina won maiden Davis cup and thus created tennis history for the first time in a dramatic final in Zagreb on 27 November 2016.
  2. Federico Delbonis then swept past Ivo Karlovic 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in the decisive fifth contest to clinch victory.

India beat England in the third cricket match

  1. India beat England by eight wickets in the third cricket Test to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series in Mohali on Tuesday.
  2. England: 283 & 236 all out in 90.2 overs (Joe Root 78, Haseeb Hameed 59 not out; Ravichandran Ashwin 3/81, Jayant Yadav 2/21). 
  3. India: 417 & 104 for 2 in 20.2 overs (Parhtiv Patel 67 not out; Chris Woakes 1/16). 

Nico Rosberg became the newest Formula 1 World Champion

  1. German driver Nico Rosberg of Mercedes team became the newest Formula One World Champion on 27 November 2016 even though he finished second in the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix, the last F1 event of the year, held at Yas Marina Circuit (UAE).
  2. The race was won by his Mercedes teammate and reigning F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton. By finishing second Rosberg finished the 2016 F1 season with 385 points while Hamilton finished 5 points behind (380).
  3. Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo finished the season with third place (256 points).

Indian secured 4th place in constructor’s championship standings

  1. F1 team Force India achieved 4th place a  major distinction after the conclusion of 2016 F1 season on 27 November 2016 at constructor’s championship standings
  2. Force India finished the year with 173 points and thus relegated much more fancied Williams (138 points) to fifth place.
  3. For Force India with Mexican driver Segio Perez accumulated 101 points while German driver Nico Hulkenberg had 72 points.
