Surjit Trophy was won by Western Railways

  • Mumbai’s Western Railways women’s team clinched the title in the 33rd Surjit Hockey Tournament by defeating Haryana XI by 4-2 in the title clash played at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar.
  • Jaspreet Kaur of Haryana XI was declared the best player of the tournament.
  • The winners and runner up were presented a cash award of Rs. 1 lakh & Rs.75000 respectively and Trophy.

Indian wushu Team Win 5 Medals

  • India wushu five players team has bagged an impressive five medals, including four silver and one bronze, in the eighth Sanda World Cup held at Xian, China.
  • The event witnessed participation from 80 best Sanda players of 13th World Wushu Championship 2015.
  • Arjuna Awardee and world silver medalist Y Sanathoi Devi won the silver for India.

Petra Kvitova won the 2016 WTA Elite Singles Trophy

  1. Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova on 6 November 2016 won the 2016 WTA Elite Singles Trophy by defeating Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-2 to grab the title at Zhuhai, China.
  2. Venus Williams was the defending champion for the title but she chose not to participate despite qualifying for the edition.

Andy Murray won Paris Masters

  1. Andy Murray defeated John Isner 6-3 6-7 (7-4) 6-4 to win the Paris Masters for the first time and thus became world No.1 officially replaces Novak Djokovic at the top of the rankings this week.
  2. It was his career best eighth title this season, his 14th in Masters overall, and ended Isner’s bid for a first Masters title.

Iraq Air Force Club won prestigious Asian Football Confederation Cup (AFC Cup)

  1. Iraq Air Force Club (officially known by their Arabic name Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya) defeated India’s Bengaluru FC by 1-0 in the final of the AFC Cup that was played in Doha (Qatar) on 5 November 2016.
  2. Bengaluru FC became the first-ever Indian club to reach the final of AFC Cup. AFC Cup is the equivalent of what Europa League is for European clubs.

Pacquiao Reclaims WBO Welterweight Title

  1. Filipino southpaw Manny Pacquiao reclaimed the World Boxing Organization welterweight title for the third time in Las Vegas, USA.
  2. He was given an unanimous decision victory over former champion Jesse Vargas in his comeback fight.
  3. Pacquiao won the WBO title for the first time in 2010 when he beat Miguel Cotto.

Chicago Cubs win 2016 World Series

  1. For more than 100 years, the Cubs have been known as “lovable losers” but in November 2016 finaly breaking the series of losing Chicago Cubs have won baseball’s World Series by defeating the Cleveland Indians 8-7 in 10 innings, winning the series four games to three.
  2. It was the Cubs’ first World Series win since 1908.

  1. Indian shuttler Pratul Joshi on 30 October 2016 won hin maiden men’s singles title of the Bahrain International Challenge badminton tournament.
  2. In the summit clash played at Segayya in Bahrain, Pratul defeated Aditya Joshi 21-17, 12-21, 21-15.
  3. On the other hand, the women’s singles title went to Sri fatmawati of Indonesia. In the final clash, she defeated compatriot Asty Dwi Widyaningru.
