Bank of America has unveiled a virtual assistant called Erica

  1. Bank of America has unveiled a virtual assistant called Erica that uses artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to learn consumers' personal spending habits and offer financial advice.
  2. It also will help users understand financial concepts and warn them of imminent risks, among other things.

China launched micro satellite Banxing-2

  1. Tiangong-2, the experimental space lab of China has successfully launched a micro-satellite, Banxing-2 (the word means Companion Satellite) that is roughly the size of a desktop printer.
  2. At present, Tiangong-2 is orbiting the Earth with two astronauts on board.

Mars lander (rover) of the European Space Agency (ESA) that failed to send any signal after landing on Mars’ surface

  1. ‘Schiaparelli’ - the Mars lander (rover) of the European Space Agency (ESA) has failed to send any signal after landing on Mars’ surface on 19 October 2016.
  2. The rover failed to emit any signal and thus became the second failed Mars landing in a row for ESA.
  3. Schiaparelli had travelled seven months and 496 million kilometers onboard the European-Russian Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) to come within a million kilometers from Mars on 16 October 2016.

Scientist find the procedure to produces electricity from water without using any external energy

  1. Scientists at the Delhi’s National Physical Laboratory (NPL) successfully devised a procedure to produces electricity from water at room temperature without using any external energy.  Materials used for creation of electricity included Nanoparous magnesium ferrite, Silver and Zinc.
  2. In the process, nanoparous magnesium ferrite was used to split water into hydronium (H3O) and hydroxide (OH) ions. Silver and Zinc were used as electrodes to make a cell that produces electricity. The team that devised the procedure was led by Dr. RK Kotnala.

World-first optical sensor that may quickly detect vitamin B12 defficiency:

1. Scientists have developed a new world-first optical sensor that may quickly detect vitamin B12 defficiency.

2. Vitamin B12 defficiency is a condition linked to an increased risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. 

3.  It is the first time a rapid technique based on optical spectroscopy has been shown to be able to detect vitamin B12 in human blood serum.

India’s first indigenous zero-emission electric bus launched by Ashok Leyland : 

1> On 17 October 2016, In India Ashok Leyland has launched India’s first electric bus series that has been fully made in the country and also boost to Indian Government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign.

2> This electric bus has been named ‘Circuit’ and it is a zero-emission, non-polluting vehicle, created specifically for Indian road and passenger conditions. The Bus is integrated with a fire detection and suppression system (FDSS), this truly Indian innovation can travel 120 kilometers on a single charge.

3> In April 2015, at FAME Delhi workshop, Ashok Leyland had committed to vehicles with full electric power trains by January 2017.
