Quikr Buys Grabhouse in All-stock Deal

  1. After acquiring realty portal Commonfloor, Online classifieds company Quikr India Pvt. Ltd has acquired home rental start-up Grabhouse in an all-stock deal.
  2. Grabhouse will continue operations as an independent brand for managed rental homes.

Oracle to Buy Web Service Provider Dyn

  1. Oracle announced that it acquired the DNS provider called Dyn.
  2. Dyn is the company which came into the public eye after it was hit by a large-scale internet attack in Oct 2016 that left websites unreachable..
  3. DYN services are crucial cogs in helping internet users reach websites by allowing web addresses.

BSE Opens Regional Office in Shimla

  1. In an efforts to expand its operations and in line with Sebi’s directives in Indian, BSE opened its regional investor service centre in Shimla.
  2. With this launch, now it has presence in 24 cities across the country.
  3. The centre will facilitate query handling, redressal of grievances against trading members and arbitration mechanism.

Gitanjali Gems Loses SEZ Project

  1. The government has approved the cancellation of Gitanjali Gems’ special economic zone (SEZ) project in Maharashtra after SEZ was notified on June 9, 2008, & a formal approval expired on October 24, 2011.
  2. Cancellation was approved because developer could not get green zone converted to industrial zone even after lapse of eight years from notification.
  3.  A decision regarding this was taken by the board of approval.

Oxigen Partners Federal Bank for Cash Management Services

  1. Federal Bank has tied up with Oxigen to expand the bank’s e-collection facility to the about 3 lakh- retail outlets of Oxigen.
  2. The agreement was exchanged between Chief Operating Officer, Federal Bank, Shalini Warrier,  and Pramod Saxena, Founder and Chairman of Oxigen, in the New Delhi on November 17, 2016.

Airtel announces merger with Axiata in Bangladesh

  1. Telecom operator Bharti Airtel has announced the completion of the merger of its subsidiary unit in Bangladesh with Robi Axiata.
  2. This entity will now be the second-largest mobile operator in Bangladesh.

BBC World Service announces biggest expansion

  1. BBC World Service announces biggest expansion 'since the 1940s'
  2. BBC World Service will launch 11 new language services due to the funding boost.
  3. The new languages will be Afaan Oromo, Amharic, Gujarati, Igbo, Korean, Marathi, Pidgin, Punjabi, Telugu, Tigrinya, and Yoruba.

Snapchat Files for $25 Billion IPO

  1. The Venice, California-based company Snapchat has filed for an initial public offering and could go public as soon as March and be valued at $20 billion to $25 billion.
  2. It would be the largest U.S. technology IPO since Facebook Inc’s debut in 2012.
  3. Snapchat filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission under the U.S. Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act.

  1. Reliance Group has partnered with Cisco Jasper for the launch of UNLIMIT, an independent unit, which will provide Internet of Things (IoT) services.

First time in History Public Sector Oil Companies dispense against swiping of debit card

  1. The Public Sector Oil Companies like IOC, BPCL and HPCL in association with State Bank of India, have come forward to ease out some of the challenges being faced by the common public regarding availability of currencies. 
  2. POS machines are the machines which are generally used for debit or credit card transactions. It has been decided to start this facility at around 2500 petrol pumps spread across the country including rural areas, where SBI POS machines are provided. 
  3. The Oil Industry is also in further discussions with SBI and other Banks to extend this facility to over 20,000 petrol pumps gradually. g This facility will be available even after November 24, 2016.
