Samsung to Buy Harman

  1. Samsung Electronics has agreed to acquire auto-systems maker Harman for $8 billion.
  2. It is considered as Samsung’s biggest ever acq. as they will pay $112.00 per share in cash for the Stamford, Connecticut-based company.
  3. Harman provides connected cars and audio systems with safety and entertainment features.

Viacom Buys Telefonica’s Telefe

  1. Viacom had bought Argentine broadcaster Television Federal SA (Telefe) from telecom carrier Telefonica SA for $345 million in cash with the aim to boost its presence in Argentina and Latin America.
  2. The company has 12 pay-TV networks, including Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Comedy Central, Paramount Channel and VH1.

Cyrus Mistry Removed as TGBL Chairman

  1. Cyrus Mistry was voted out as chairman by the7 out of 10 directors from board of the Tata Global Beverages, the second listed firm of $103 billion Group to remove him.
  2. Tata Global Beverages named company veteran Harish Bhat as its new chairman.

Molinari Rail to set up manufacturing unit in India

  1. Swiss major Molinari Rail will set up a manufacturing and assembly centre for auxiliary power units for diesel locomotives in India by next year. 
  2. Molinari Rail AG has entered into a strategic pact to design, manufacture and deliver the auxiliary power units (APUs) for 1,000 diesel locomotives to be built in India for Indian Railways.

WhatsApp rolled out video calling feature

  1. To take on headon fight with Google app and other Popular messaging app WhatsApp has now rolled out video calling feature.
  2. This feature will now put it in competition with the likes of popular video calling apps like Microsoft's Skype, Apple's FaceTime and the recently launched Google's Duo. 
  3. India is the biggest market for WhatsApp. Of its over one billion users, about 160 million are here. Other major markets include Latin America and Western Europe.

Alibaba Closes in on Record Sales

  1. In approx. 12 hours into the event, E-commerce giant Alibaba looks set to smash the sales record for its annual Singles Day event with reaching 82.4bn yuan ($12.1bn).
  2. Alibaba reported 85% of purchases had been made on mobile phones during Singles Day that is held every year on 11 November.
  3. The day is also referred to as Double Eleven because of its date.

  1. Snapdeal has launched first-of-a-kind feature, Wallet on Delivery (WoD) that allows users to pay on delivery by using their FreeCharge wallet.
