About Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana - Svyasa
Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (Vivekanand Yoga Research Foundation) is the new name from February 2000 onwards. Earlier it was called Vivekananda Kendra Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (VK YOGAS) from 1986 to 2000. Earlier to that, it was Vivekananda Kendra Chikitsa Tatha Anusandhana Samiti (VK YOCTAS from 1981 to 1986). Today, it is also know as SVYASA (Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana). SVYASA is a Yoga University established under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 vide Notification Number F.9-45/2001-U.3 dated 8/5/2001 of the Government of India. It is named after Swami Vivekananda, the famous Indian monk who heralded the grandeur of Sanatana Dharma (the Laws of Creation) in the West through his epoch-making speech in the Parliament of Religions on Sep 11, 1893. SVYASA is a unique University which is a mix between an Ashram and a modern university. Classes are conducted in the Gurukul system of teaching. Yoga Courses vary from certificate courses to Degree, Diploma and Doctorate programmes at the Graduate and Post-Graduate levels. SVYASA courses have been developed by yoga masters with long years of experience. The programme at SVYASA includes Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Jnana yoga, as codified by Swami Vivekananda. The educational system in SVYASA is holistic, based on the consciousness-based approach of yoga systems and spiritual lore. It is not merely a bread-earning educational system but a personality-developing and world-building tool through yoga. The University is open to all persons of whatever race, religion, creed, caste, class and geographical area of the country. No test or condition is imposed as to religious belief or occupation in admitting or appointing members, students, teachers, workers or in any other connection whatsoever. No benefaction that involves conditions and obligations opposed to the spirit and objects of the University will be accepted by the University. The campus is called Prashanti Kutiram, the Abode of Peace. Lying in the lap of nature amidst greenery, the campus lies sprawling over 100 acres. Yoga Courses at our SVYASA Yoga University are recognised by the University Grants Commission, Government of India. There are about 50 Ph.Ds, 100 M.Scs and over 350 students in various branches. The univesrity has so far 6 Ph.Ds and 2 MDs from the University, one from HUA, 6 from Bangalore University. SVYASA has, over the years, standardized such Advanced Yoga techniques as CM (Cyclic Meditation), PET (Pranic Energisation Technique), MSRT (Mind Sound Resonance Technique), MEMT (Mastering the Emotions Technique), MIRT (Mind Imagery Technique), VISAK (Vignana Sadhana Kausalya) and ANAMS (Anandamrita Sinchana).
