Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences University (KIMS) is a Deemed University specialising in Medical Education. It is also known as Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Deemed University (KIMSDU). It is a Unitary University; it means it has a single campus, offers both postgraduate and undergraduate courses and strong emphasis on research. Krishna Charitable Trust is the sponsoring society of KIMSDU. KIMS was founded by Late Shri. Jaywantrao Bhosale who was philanthropist and social reformer who entered into the education field in 1964 with the establishment of Society for Promotion of Education in Farmers. Shri Jaywantraoji Bhosale made great efforts to allow private participation in the field of medical education. In 1984 medical education was the forte of government run institutions. It was his continuous efforts that he was able to persuade, the then Government of Maharashtra for private participation in the field of medical education. From there the journey of the university began. In the year 2005 the KIMS was declared as “Deemed University” by the MHRD of Government of India and new constituent colleges were added under it like - School of Dental Sciences, Krishna School of Physiotherapy, Krishna Institute of Nursing Sciences, Krishna Institute of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics and Krishna Institute of Pharmacy. The campus of Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences University is spread over 60 acres. The university conducted a Green audit of the campus and found that 65% of the campus is covered trees. The campus has about 2096 trees. KIMS is recognized by the Medical Council of India, Medical Council of Malaysia and is listed in the WHO's world directory of Medical Schools. Its MBBS and postgraduate degree/diploma courses in clinical and basic sciences in 17 disciplines are recognized by Medical Council of India. It is also a ISO 9001: 2008 certified University. It admits the international students from all over the globe for MBBS course.
