About Indian Veterinary Research Institute - Ivri
The Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) is one of the premier research institutions dedicated to livestock research and development of the region. It was established in 1889. The Institute is spread over an area of 307 hectares at Izatnagar Campus. It has campuses at Mukteshwar, Bangalore, Palampur, Bhopal, Kolkata and Srinagar. Formerly known as Imperial Bacteriological Laboratory, it was renamed in 1925 as Imperial Veterinary Research Institute. The name of the Institute was changed following independence to Indian Veterinary Research Institute. Administrative control of the Institute is currently under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. The Ministry of Education, Govt. of India on the recommendation of University Grants Commission conferred the status of the Deemed to be University on 16th November, 1983 under Section 3 of UGC Act (1956). The first academic session started on 15th January, 1984. It is the oldest research institution of South-East Asia with a strength of more than 350 faculty members engaged in research, teaching, consultancy and technology transfer activities. It awards degrees to master and doctoral programmes in more than 20 disciplines of veterinary and animal sciences, livestock products technology, basic sciences and extension education. To impart continuing education to field veterinarians, the Institute also conducts diploma courses in veterinary preventive medicine, animal husbandry, veterinary biological products, animal reproduction, poultry husbandry, medicine and surgery, zoo and wild animal health care and management, meat and meat products technology. The institute’s research is currently addressed with clear benchmarking of deliverables through 157 research and 42 service projects. The institute continues to play an important role in quality control and potency testing of immunobiologicals to various stakeholders with a good liaison with industry. Kisan Mela and Pashu Vigyan Pradarshini and other extension activities including KVK, ATIC, Helpline, etc. play a key role in technology transfer mission of the institute. The Institute also arranges various short-term training programmes, staff courses and summer institutes to make the professional workers familiar with latest developments in veterinary and animal sciences from time to time. Location and Transportation - It is located at Izzatnagar, Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. It is situated at a distance of about 8 kms. from Bareilly Jn. (BG) and 4 kms. from the Bareilly town.
