NASA launched 8 tiny satellite into Orbit

  1. As current remote sensing technology is unable to peer past heavy rain in the inner core of a hurricane, NASA's Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System mission, or CYGNSS, was launched aboard Orbital ATK's Pegasus rocket XL along with eight tiny NASA satellites meant to peer deeply into hurricanes and help scientists better understand how they gain force
  2. The rocket was carried on the underside of the company's Stargazer L-1011 aircraft which deploys the Pegasus XL rocket in mid-flight. "All CYGNSS satellites have been successfully deployed," Orbital ATK tweeted at 8:53 am (local time). 
  3. The USD 157 million satellites "will probe the inner core of hurricanes to learn about their rapid intensification,"

Nanoceramic material that can be used to produce safer and economical nuclear reactors

  1. ​A team of scientists included Fabio Di Fonzo and Kumar Sridharan and others from the United States have created a Nanoceramic material that can be used to produce safer and economical nuclear reactors.
  2. The research was published in the Nature journal Scientific Reports in September 2016 with the title Radiation endurance in Al2O3 nanoceramics .

Kerala launches mobile apps to fight corruption

  1. The Kerala government has launched two mobile applications "Arising Kerala" and "Whistle Now" which can be used to upload information regarding graft.
  2. Kerala Chief Minister launch these apps on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day. 
  3. Using the apps, people can upload videos and audios related to corruption around them.

Japan sent 'space junk' collector

  1. More than 50 years of human space exploration since the Soviet-launched Sputnik satellite in 1957 has produced this hazardous belt of orbiting debris. 
  2. Japan launched a cargo ship bound for the International Space Station (ISS), carrying a 'space junk' collector that was made with the help of a fishnet company.
  3. The capsule — called Kounotori, or white stork — contains nearly 5 tons of food, water and other supplies, including six new lithium-ion batteries for the station's solar power system.
  4. Scientists at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) are experimenting with a tether to pull junk out of orbit around Earth, clearing up tonnes of space clutter including cast-off equipment from old satellites and pieces of rocket.

  1. To overcome from shortage of small currency in the market, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched AP Purse mobile app featuring 13 mobile banking & 10 mobile wallet options.
  2. People can pay their bills using the app and carry out their cashless transactions as State government introduced cashless transactions at fair price shops.

MoES Launches Winter Fog Experiment

  1. The Ministry of Earth Sciences inaugurated the Winter Fog Campaign at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).
  2. The main aim of the Winter Fog Experiment (WIFEX) is to develop methods for forecasting winter fog on various temporal and spatial scales so that it will help reduce its adverse impact on aviation, transportation and economy.

ISRO launched earth observation satellite Resourcesat-2A

  1. ISRO successfully launched its own earth observation satellite Resourcesat-2A on 7 December 2016.
  2. The observation satellite Resourcesat -2A was launched with PSLV C36/ RESOURCESAT-2A from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
  3. The Resourcesat-2A weighing 1235 kilograms was injected into an 817 km polar Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO) at around 20 minutes into the destination.
  4. Resourcesat-2A is a remote sensing satellite and is intending for resource monitoring. It is a follow-on mission to Resourcesat-1 and Resourcesat-2, which were launched in 2003 and 2011 respectively. 
  5. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) also announced that they will launch 83 satellites into space in one go, aboard a single rocket in January 2017.

PM Modi launches Indian Police app

  1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 27th November launched police app that helps the citizen locate the nearest police stations.
  2. Indian Police app provides the names of the police stations, the telephone numbers, the distance from the place where caller are and how much time it will take to reach whichever police station one wants to go to.
  3. The App is also capable of 'Tap to call' facility that prompts one to call any of the numbers listed.
  4. The app is a GIS Map based interface for the citizens to locate police stations near to their current location so that they can easily reach the police station in case of emergency.
  5. The app was developed by NIC.
