Sjoerd Marijne new Chief Coach of the Indian women’s hockey team
  1. Former Dutch women’s national coach Sjoerd Marijne was on 28 February 2017 appointed the chief coach of the Indian women’s hockey team for the next four years.
  2. Sjoerd Marijne has prioir exp. as he coached the Netherlands, having coached the Dutch U-21 women’s side to a World Cup title as well as the Dutch senior women’s side to a gold medal at the Hockey World League semifinals in 2015.
First Indian edition of P1 Powerboat Championship
  1. The first Indian edition of P1 Powerboat Championship, also known as ‘Indian Grand Prix of the Seas’, was held from 3 March 2017 to 5 March 20-17 in Arabian Sea off the Marine Drive in South Mumbai.
  2. The event that was also billed as ‘Indian Grand Prix of the Seas’ saw participation from champion powerboat drivers from all over the world.
  3. The event was won by the Baleno RS Booster Jets on 5 March 2017 while ‘Lloyd Dolphins’ (having two teams) bagged 87 points overall to get the silver medal and ‘Money on Mobile Marlins’, which also had two teams, scored 79 points to clinch the bronze.

Bishnoi appointed International match referee of UWW
  1. Former India wrestler Kripa Shankar Bishnoi became the first international match referee from his native Madhya Pradesh, as per announcemnet made by the United World Wrestling (UWW).
  2. Kripa Shankar Bishnoi is an Arjuna Award winner and had underwent the course in Germany last year and has cleared the test which was held in Dortmund.

  1. Indian international cricketer Virat Kohli has named as the ‘Captain of the Year‘ at the 10th annual ESPNcricinfo Awards.
  2. Stuart Broad bagged the Test Bowling performance of the year for his brilliant spell of 6/17 in the final Test against South Africa.

Dominic Thiem won the 2017 Rio Open
  1. Austrian professional tennis player Dominic Thiem won the 2017 Rio Open in men’s singles category by defeating Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta by 7-5, 6-4 score
  2. It was his eighth ATP singles title and his sixth on clay.
Shanta Rangaswamy to be honoured for Lifetime Achievement Awards for Women
  1. Former India captain Shantha Rangaswamy will be honored with first time introduced a separate category of Lifetime Achievement Awards for Women in the upcoming BCCI Annual Awards 2016-17.
  2. All the three winners would be felicitated during the BCCI Annual Awards ceremony to be held in Bengaluru on March 8.

Ravichandran Ashwin breaks Kapil Dev's record of most wickets in home season 
  1. Premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, broked Kapil Dev's Indian record of most Test wickets in a domestic season. 
  2. Ashwin, the fastest in the world to reach 250 Test wicket mark recently and took his tally of wickets in the current home season to 64 in 10 Test matches broke Kapil Dev's record who took 63 wickets in 13 Tests.

Afghanistan players Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan selected in IPL
  1. Five cricketers from Afghanistan were included in the auction for the first timeand out of that Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan from Afganistan became the first 2 players selected for Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.
  2. Both players were bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad, for Rs. 30 lakh and Rs. 4 crore respectively.

Shahid Afridi announced his retirement from international cricket
  1. Pakistan's explosive all-rounder Shahid Afridi has called curtains on his 21-year-long international cricketing career. 
  2. Boom-Boom Afridi, as he is popularly known, 36-year-old maverick all-rounder saw many ups and downs in his long and often controversial career. 
  3. Afridi also played 98 T20 matches for Pakistan and scored 1,405 runs along wth bagging 97 wickets.

Indian Women's team won a silver at the Asian Rugby Sevens Trophy
  1. The Indian Women's team won a silver at the Asian Rugby Sevens Trophy held at Vientiane, Laos.
  2. Total of seven countries from across Asia including South Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, India and hosts Lao vied for top honours in the Asian Rugby Sevens Trophy. 
  3. India was one among the top three Try Scorers of the tournament and Meerarani Hembram was the third highest in the conversions.
