Video Gaming is introduced in 2022 Asian Games

  1. Video games will be part as a full sport at the 2022 Asian Games, as was announced by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on 19 April 2017 at Hangzhou, China.
  2. It will also be a demonstration sport at the 2018 Asian Games in Palembang, Indonesia.

Pankaj Advani won his sixth Asian Billiards title

Sixteen-time world champion Pankaj Advani has won his sixth Asian Billiards title and seventh overall Asian championship by defeating his compatriot Sourav Kothari 6-3 in an entertaining final of the Asian Billiards Championship in Chandigarh.

  1. Srikanth in the men’s singles final of Singapore Open super series badminton tournament to clinch his maiden superseries title on 16 April 2017 by defeating Srikanth by 17-21, 21-17, 21-12.
  2. Women’s singles title was won by world no.1 Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei as she defeated Olympic champion Carolina Marin of Spain by 21-15, 21-15. This was the fifth consecutive Super Series title for Ying.

  1. P V Sindhu reached to career-best world number two ranking when she jumped three places to achieve a career-best in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings. 
  2. P V Sindhu became only the second Indian woman after Saina Nehwal to break into the top-five of the world rankings by earning 75759 points.

Tamil Nadu won the 2017 Vijay Hazare Trophy on 20 March 2017
  1. This is the fifth time that Tamil Nadu won the Vijay Hazare Trophy after defeating Bengal in the finals of the 2017 edition that was played on 20 March 2017.
  2. Vijay Hazare Trophy, also known as the Ranji One Day Trophy and was started in 2002–03.
NBA launches first basketball school in India
  1. National Basketball Association (NBA) announced the setting up of its first basketball school, a network of tuition-based basketball development programmes, in Mumbai. 
  2. The school, as part of a multi-year agreement announced with India On Track (IOT), is open to male and female players between ages 6-18.

Sebastian Vettel won the first Formula 1 Grand Prix title of the year – the Australian F1 Grand Prix on 26 March 2017
  1. 4-time F1 champion Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel (Germany) beat Lewis Hamilton (Britain) of Mercedes in a straight fight on 26 March 2017.
  2. This win was the Vettel’s first win since the Singapore GP in September 2015 and many F1 analysts believe that Mercedes’ domination will now be over after the introduction of faster cars.
