Rafael Nadal won 10th Barcelona Open Title

  1. Rafael Nadal won 10th Barcelona Open title by defeating Dominic Thiem of Austria. 
  2. Nadal also won the Monte Carlo Masters for a 10th time last week, romped to the title without dropping a set on the newly renamed Rafa Nadal court at the Real Tennis Club in Barcelona.

Joshna Chinappa becomes first Indian to win Asian Squash title

  1. Joshna Chinappa became first Indian to clinch the Asian Squash title against Dipika Pallikal Karthik in the women's final at an event that was organized in Chennai.
  2. Howvere, in the men's final, top-seeded Max Lee of Hong Kong won his maiden title beating India's Saurav Ghosal.

Russian Grand Prix 2017: Valtteri Bottas wins his first F1 race

  1. Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) claimed his first Formula One victory in a tense final of few laps as he was chased down by Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel.
  2. In the race, Sebastian Vettel finished in second and Mercedes's Lewis Hamilton stood fourth.

Pankaj Advani wins silver at Asian Snooker Championship

  1. India's top cueist Pankaj Advani won first ever Silver in the summit clash of Asian Snooker Championship held in Doha, Qatar. He lost to China's Lv Haotian. 
  2. So far he won all gold medals at the National Championships of Billiards, 6-red Snooker and 15-red Snooker, as well as the Asian Billiards Championship.

First-ever sports meet for transgender athletics was held

  1. The first-ever One Day sports meet for transgender athletes - ‘Kerala State Transgender Athletics Meet 2017’ was held at Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on 28 April 2017
  2. The event was organized by the Kerala State Sports Council and in that 160 members from the transgender community participated in the march-past.
  3. Competitions were held in 100m race, 200m race, 400m race, 4x100m relay, shot put and long jump.

  2. She became India’s first woman International Olympic Committee member.

Mann Kaur sets world record at the World Masters Games

  1. Mann Kaur broke her world record 1 minute and 14 seconds to clinch gold in 100m at the World Masters Games that is considered the Olympics for veterans — in Auckland, New Zealand.
  2. Mann Kaur become the world’s fastest centenarian by clinching gold in 100m at the American Masters Games in Vancouver with a time of 1 minute 21 seconds last year.

Manpreet Kaur bags Gold

  1. Indian shot putter Manpreet Kaur clinched a gold in the first leg of the Asian Grand Prix Athletics and thus India ended the one-day event with seven medals (1 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze).

  1. In order to reduce the total number of events from 493 to 431, cricket is now officially announced to be removed from the 2018 Asian games in Jakarta and Palembang.
  2. Along with cricket, skateboarding, sambo, surfing, kurash and belt wrestling events are also been removed from 2018 Asian Games.
