Moushumi Chatterjee gets BFJA lifetime achievement award

  1. Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee has received the lifetime achievement award, at the 80th Bengal Film Journalists' Association (BFJA) awards.
  2. The BFJA, the oldest association of film scribes in the country was founded in 1937. 

Asia’s largest church in Nagaland

  1. As notified, Sumi Baptist Church Zunheboto in Nagaland, is said to be the largest church in Asia with the seating capacity of 85000 people and has 27 rooms.
  2. The church stands tall at 1864.9 m above sea level and measures 23,73,476 sq ft in the plinth area had took 10 years to built and spend budget of Rs 36 crore. The church is open for public now.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award won by K Viswanath

  1. Renowned filmmaker and actor Kasinadhuni Viswanath and best known for his award-winning movies in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi, has won the Dadasaheb Phalke award for the year 2016 recieve the award at ceremony that will be held on 3rd May 2017 in New Delhi.
  2. He will be the 48 recipient of the award, the highest recognition in Indian cinema, which consists of a golden lotus, a cash prize of ₹10 lakh and a shawl.

Haryana launches mobile app 'Kilkari'

  1. In order to boost the effort to decrease the death rate among the newly birth child, the National Health Mission (NHM) in Haryana launched a mobile-based application named 'Kilkari' to create awareness among pregnant women, parents and health workers on the importance of ante and post natal care.
  2. From the second trimester of pregnancy, till the child is one-year-old, the application will deliver 72 times appropriate audio messages to registered mobile numbers on pregnancy, child and childbirth care every week.

India’s first hospital for eye tumours launched

  1. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) established in 1956 is now India’s first public hospital to start plaque brachytherapy facility for the treatment of eye tumours.
  2. In this facility, it is a form of local radiation delivered to the eye through a radioactive device which is attached to the eye for a temporary period of time.

25% amount is “Just and Proper” as alimony announced by Supreme court

  1.  The Supreme Court in its ruling of April 2017 described 25% of the net salary amount as a “just and proper” amount as alimony, for maintenance to be paid by a husband to his estranged wife.
  2. A bench of Justices R. Banumathi and M. M. Santanagoudar made the observation while directing a resident of West Bengal’s Hoogly, earning Rs. 95,527 a month, to set aside Rs. 20,000 as maintenance for his former wife and their son, turning down the man’s plea that the amount was excessive.

'One Part Woman' wins Sahitya Akademi Award

  1. One Part Woman translated version of the english novel Mathorubhagan written by Perumal Murugan’s has won the Sahitya Akademi’s award for translation in English 2016.
  2. The translation was done by Aniruddhan Vasudevan and the book was published by Penguin.

Newton won award in Hong Kong International Film Festival

  1.  Actor Rajkummar Rao and Anjali Patil starrer “Newton” tnhat is a political satire has won the best film honour at the Hong Kong International Film Festival.
  2. Earlier, it had its world premiere at the 67th Berlin Film Festival where it won the International Federation of Art Cinemas (CICAE) award in its Forum segment.

India's first village of books

  1. India’s first village of books will open on May 4 in Panchgani, Mahabaleshwar, Maharashtra.
  2. The Maharashtra government has got 75-odd artists to paint the walls of the 25 premises that include 3 temples, 2 schools, 7 houses and several lodges and homestays spread on a stretch of 2 km in Bhilar village at Pustakanche Gaon (village of books).

Super Earth (Planet) discovered in habitable zone

  1. Astronomers have discovered another planet (Super Earth), called LHS1140b, which is expected to be present in the Goldilocks Zone (which is know as to a habitable zone where the temperature is neither too high nor too low.).
  2. The planet is found to be rocky, like the Earth but is over 6 times as massive as Earth and about 1.5-times larger and falls under the category of ‘Super Earth’.
