Israeli start-up RealFace acquired by Apple
  1. Apple being more innovative and looking to boost the use of world of artificial intelligence (AI), has acquired Israel-based start-up RealFace.
  2. RealFace that develops deep learning-based face authentication technology that develops deep learning-based face authentication technology.
     
First-ever non-Parsi chairman of Tata Group
  1. 54 Years old N. Chandrasekaran on 21 February 2017 took reins as the seventh Chairman of the 150-year old Tata Group and became the first-ever non-Parsi chairman of Tata Group. 
  2. Natarajan Chandrasekaran, popularly known as ‘Chandra’ and was the CEO and MD of TCS, prior to being selected for the top job in the Tata group.
  3. Earlier 6 Chairmen of Tata Group are – Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata (1867–1904), Sir Dorab Tata (1904–1932), Nowroji Saklatwala (1932–1938), Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata (1938–1991), Ratan Tata (1991–2012) and Cyrus Pallonji Mistry (2012–2016).

Havells India to buy Lloyd Electric’s consumer business
  1. Havells India has notfied that it is acquiring Lloyd Electric & Engineering for its consumer durables business.
  2. Havells India buying Lloyd for around Rs 1200 -1500 crore.
  3. Lloyd’s business divisions includes heat exchangers, original equipment manufacturing and packaged AC business.

AirAsia !st foreign airline lands at Srinagar
  1. AirAsia became the 1st foreign airline ever to start its operations from Srinagar international airport in Jammu and Kashmir.
  2. ‘The Sheikh-ul-Alam International Airport’ is in the service for the last five years and AirAsia will be the first foreign airline to start it service here and thus iwll give good boost to tourism in the valley.
Muthoot Exim, Divine Solitaires tie up
  1. Muthoot Exim has tied with Divine Solitaires Pratham to retail Swarnavarsham diamond jewellery.
  2. Joint company will offer 18-karat gold rings studded with 0.14 cents diamond of EF colour and VVS clarity however, ring is being offered in three sizes of 12mm, 14mm and 16mm with weight of gold as 2gm, 2.2gm and 2.4gm along with one year free insurance is also offered on diamonds.

India’s Newest Airline- Zoom Air launched
  1. Zoom Air, India’s newest full-service airline is all set to commence commercial operations with a flight to Durgapur via Kolkata from New Delhi.
  2. Zoom Air headquartered in Gurgaon was founded in April 2013 and begin operations in India using a Bombardier CRJ200.

Hindustan Motors sold its iconic Ambassador brand
  1. Owned by the CK Birla Group, Hindustan Ambassador was manufactured at Uttarpara on the outskirts of Kolkata, sold its iconic Ambassador brand of cars to Peugeot SA a French automobile entity, as announced on 11 February 2017.
  2. Manufactured from 1958 to 2014, it was the longest produced auto brand has been sold to French automaker Peugeot SA for Rs. 80 crore. Peugeot has also signed an agreement with the CK Birla group for re-entering the Indian auto market with a plant in Tamil Nadu.
  3. In 1958, when the Ambassador, based on Britain’s Morris Oxford, started being manufactured in India, it was the emblem of high social standing. It was also seen as the symbol of a young independent India’s economic freedom from British colonialism.

Vivanta and Gateway brought down under Tata group brand
  1. Tata Group firm Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) will bring two of its hotel brands ‘Vivanta’ and ‘Gateway’ under the ‘Taj’ brand as announced by the company on 9 February 2017
  2. Both these brands have ‘existed for almost a decade. While Gateway was launched in 2008, Vivanta was introduced in 2010.

  1. Palo Alto, California. based Tesla is all set to make its debut in India this summer.
  2. The Tesla Model 3 is an all-electric four-door compact luxury sedan and is valued at $35000.
  3. Musk also mentioned that Tesla plan to set up a pan-India supercharger network.

Samsung Pay’ in India
  1. The technology giant Samsung is soon going to launch its mobile payment wallet ‘Samsung Pay’ in India. The launch is expected to happen in the first half of 2017.
  2. Samsung has previously partnered with these companies for its e-payment solutions in other regions such as with Amex in countries including the United States, Australia and South Korea.
  3. This feature will allow a smartphone to function like a physical card. Samsung also aims to position the app as a central database that can store multiple cards from various banks along with Samsung reward cards. This will enable fast online transaction like with just a tap or a code.
