About Ambedkar Institute Of Technology
Ambedkar Institute of Technology (AIT) is one of the few Technical Institutes established in year 200, by Govt. of NCT of Delhi. It is developing as the Centre of Excellence imparting technical education and generating competent professionals with a high degree of credibility, integrity and ethical standards. It is one of the leading engineering college under the umbrella of Guru Gobind Singh Indra Prastha University. As of 2014 it is known as Ambedkar Institute of Advanced Communication Technologies and Research (AIACTR) though the former name is stilll used to refer to AIT a.k.a. Ambedkar Institute of Technology. AIACTR strives to be one of the leading technical institutes and the most outstanding college in India. As a technical institution, it seeks to achieve the highest levels of distinction in the discovery and transmission of knowledge and understanding, and in the education of graduate students. Infrastructure and Courses AIT presently offers graduation degree in two streams - 1. Computer Science and Engineering 2. Electronics and Communication Engineering AIT also offers Post-graduation degree in two streams - 1. Information Security 2. Digital Communication Two new M Tech programs - 1. Signal Processing and Microwave 2. RF Engineering - with 18 intake in each are also proposed to be started from session 2009-10. The seats in UG programs are proposed to be increased from 60 in each to 120 in each of the above mentioned UG programs. Departments 1. Computer Science and Engineering Department 2. Electronics and Communication Engineering Department 3. Department of humanities Facilities and Campus AIT is currently functioning from its Campus located at Shakarpur, East Delhi. The Institute has taken possession of sprawling area of 8.5 acres at Geeta colony for setting up a State-of-Art Campus with ultra-modern facilities and lush green ambience all around. The Foundation Stone of new campus was laid by Honorable Chief Minister of Delhi Mrs. Sheila Dixit on 24th May 2006. Construction work is underway and we plan to shift into new campus by November, 2007 Library - It strives to connect outstanding faculty and brilliant students to the knowledge and state of the art of their disciplines, and thereby strengthens the aspirations and expectations of the research and teaching work at AIT Delhi. Multiple copies of books are available for issue and reference. Reading material includes text books, reference books, fiction titles, Indian/foreign periodicals and journals. Supplements the teaching of the faculty and lectures of the guest speakers. Another feature of the library is the Automation Software System and Internet connection. Audio-visual materials such as CD’s, floppies and video cassettes on diverse topics are available for students’ use. The reading room has a seating capacity of more than 50 students Laboratories - State of the art labs include Advance Software Lab, Project Lab, Programming lab, Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics etc. Each lab is equipped with 30 IBM, Compaq P-IV machines of latest configuration. All the labs are internally networked and inter-connected to each other to form a LAN. The centre has twelve 6 KVA UPS (72 KVA) to provide reliability in case of power failure. Other Facilities Sports - The importance of sports in the life of a young student is invaluable. It also instills lessons that are essential in the life of a student. Sports play a pivotal role in the makeup of a young student. The students of Ambedkar Institute of Technology are encouraged to take active parts in sports activities. Excellent facilities are provided in the college campus for sports. Students take part in Inter-college competitions held yearly during the sport week of the University apart from regularly enjoying sports of their choice in the college campus as well as during sports week of the college. Learning Resource Utilization Centre - To encourage self-directed learning, resources such as computers, videos, CBT’s and models, among others are readily available to the students. LRUC provides all these facilities to the students so that they can be benefited by the resources. Apart from CBTs, computer, internet LRUC centre provides computer based teaching CDs of eminent professors to our students. With a separate dedicated computer room with internet facility, students can enhance their knowledge intake beyond teaching hours by using LRUC as per their interest. Training And Placement Division - The Training & Placement section endeavours to provide career planning and job seeking assistance to students. AIT has a full-fledged Training & Placement Section with faculty incharge for Training and Placement Extra Curricular Activities Harnessing the skills of students by focusing on the development of their individual professional and personal growth is an important part of life at campus. Students get ample opportunities to let out their creative energies and develop skills through - 1. Sporting events 2. Cultural events 3. College festivals 4. Debates 5. Inter college competitions 6. The college has organized twice the KHEL in the year 2007 and 2008 which helps them to improve themselves in all round activities 7. Naya Savera 2k5 and Corona 2K5 are an honest effort being made by the students to conglomerate various ideas generated by varsity
