First-ever training centre dedicated for para athletes launched
  1. On 5 February 2017 the foundation stone for the first-ever training centre dedicated for para athletes in the country was laid  at Sports Authority of India (SAI) complex in Gandhinagar.
  2. It is worth mentioning that para athletes have won 4 medals at Rio Paralympics (Brazil) for India in 2016 and brought glory to the country.
Pankaj Advani pockets the National Snooker Championship title
  1. Champion cueist Pankaj Advani has won the Indian National Snooker Championship with a 6-0 win over Pandurangaiah of Railways in a one-sided final on 03rd February 2017.
  2. He has now cliched 29th national title overall and became the only Indian men’s cueist to be the holder of all national billiards and snooker titles at the same time – Billiards, 6-red Snooker and 15-red Snooker.

Dushyant Chautala is new TTFI president
  1. Dushyant Chautala has been appointed as the president of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI).
  2. Chautala is the youngest president of the apex body. His term, which is for four years, extends until 2021.

  1. Indian Cricket team beat England team by 75 runs on 1 Feb 2017.
  2. Young leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal scripted a dramatic collapse with incredible figures of 6 for 25 as England lost 8 wickets for a mere 8 runs.

Abul Hossain Wins 2017 Kolkata Marathon
  1. Siliguri lad Abul Hossain won the Kolkata Marathon as amateur runners from north Bengal and Northeast India dominated the first edition of the meet here.
  2. Hossain won the race with a timing of two hours 34 minutes and two seconds to leave Kolkata lad Biswanath Pal second, five minutes behind while Paritosh Roy finished third with a timing of two hours, 52 minutes 48 seconds.Sikkim's Mangali Tamang won the women's half marathon with a timing of one hour 31 minutes and 13 seconds.

Task Force to prepare an action plan for 2020, 2024 and 2028 Olympic games
  1. The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports constituted a Task Force to prepare an action plan for 2020, 2024 and 2028 Olympic games.
  2. The tenure of the committee will be for three months or till the time it submits its report, whichever is earlier.

  1. Federer won his Men’s singles final match at the Australian Open, Melbourne, against Spain’s Rafael Nadal.
  2.  As the Fed and Rafa met up on Sunday in Melbourne for the 35th time in a glorious rivalry which has seen 9 Grand Slam finals now, the Swiss belied his past record against his Spaniard nemesis and bagged his 18th Grand Slam title and 5th Australian Open trophy.

PV Sindhu wins Syed Modi championship
  1. P.V. Sindhu has won the $120000 Syed Modi International badminton championship that was held at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in Lucknow from Jan 24-29.
  2. Sindhu had come close to winning the trophy in 2014, but suffered a loss against compatriot Saina Nehwal.
  3. The tournament was the 2nd grand prix’s badminton tournament of the 2017 BWF Grand Prix Gold and Grand Prix.
Serena Williams beats sister Venus
  1. Serena Williams defeated her sister Venus Williams to clinch her seventh Australian Open title.
  2. She now holds the most number of major titles in the Open era, going past Steffi Graf who has 22 and now she holds 23 Grand Slam titles – an Open era record.
  3. Venus, who was looking to win her eighth Grand Slam title, fell in straight sets 6-4, 6-4
